Expensei lets you delete your account and the data associated with it. You can do this two ways:
Option 1 — Delete from inside the app (recommended)
This is the fastest way and it works without contacting us.
- Open Expensei.
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll to the Account section.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm in the dialog that appears.
The app will sign you out and begin deletion. You'll be returned to the welcome screen.
Option 2 — Email us
If you can't access the app, email privacy@expensei.app from the email address on your Expensei account.
Include:
- The email address associated with your account
- A short note confirming you want your account and data deleted
We'll verify the request matches the account and confirm by email once deletion is complete. We aim to respond within 7 days and to complete deletion within 30 days.
What gets deleted
When you delete your account, Expensei removes:
- Your account record (email, authentication identifiers)
- Your expenses, recurring bills, income, profiles, budget settings, savings goals, and notes
- Locally cached app data on the device where you confirmed deletion
If you used Sign in with Apple, Expensei also asks Apple to revoke the Sign in with Apple connection on its side.
What may remain temporarily
Some information may remain for a limited time, and is then deleted automatically:
- Database backups — for up to 30 days, as part of our normal backup rotation. These are not used to restore deleted accounts; they exist for disaster recovery only.
- Server and security logs — typically up to 90 days, for security investigations, fraud prevention, and abuse handling.
- Records we are legally required to keep — such as transactional records related to app-store purchases, retained for the period required by tax or accounting law in our jurisdiction (Japan).
App Store and Google Play subscriptions
Deleting your Expensei account does not automatically cancel an active App Store or Google Play subscription. To cancel a subscription:
- App Store: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Expensei → Cancel Subscription
- Google Play: Play Store → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Expensei → Cancel subscription
Refunds for store-managed purchases are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies. Expensei cannot directly process refunds for App Store or Google Play purchases.
